The late Professor Issa Laye Thiaw with the Seereer Resource Centre team (15th December 2015) - Part 3
The late Professor Issa Laye Thiaw with the Seereer Resource Centre and Seereer Radio team talking about the use of plants for protection Seereer culture. This video was recorded in Sanghe (Jooɓaas, Senegal) on 15th December 2015. This huge land belongs to Professor Thiaw and it was where The Seereer Resource Centre and The Temple of Initiated Women (SRCTIW) was to be built which would include a Seereer learning centre, Seereer museum and dormitory where Seereer history, culture, medicine and traditional religion (A ƭat Roog) would be taught and open to anyone who wishes to learn. This documentary is part of the SRC Collection. The presenters were Tamsier Joof and Demba Sene from the Seereer Resource Centre and Seereer Radio. Other team members included Njaga Gaye and Momodou Secka. This video is in Wolof. You can learn more about the SRCTIW project by visiting the Seereer Resource Centre (see links below). This project originally called the Temple for Women Initiates. It is an old project that Professor Thiaw had tried to bring to fruition for many years prior to his death on Sunday, 10th September 2017. When met by our founder Tamsier Joof in January 2015, Joof promised Thiaw to help bring this noble project to fruition. Joof visited Thiaw again in December 2015 accompanied by his colleagues Demba Sene, Njaga Gaye and Mamadou Secka. On their way to interview Saltigi Biram Puuy for the SRC Collection, Professor Thiaw asked the gentlemen to stopped by his land in Sanghe. He showed them around and renamed this project to "The Seereer Resource Centre and The Temple of Initiated Women." If you would like to help us with the funding of this important project, please contact the SRC at [email protected] Let's work together to preserve the legacy of the late Professor Thiaw - who has given so much to Seereer, Senegambian and African heritage during his lifetime.
